the wsk champions cup in italy (adria)

After a short winter break, this year's international karting season started with the WSK Champions Cup. The OK, OKJ and mini classes gave the best of themselves at the Adria Karting Raceway (Italy). There was also a lot of Belgian karting talent at the start! Racing at such a high level is great fun and educational for both drivers and parents. Something that is often forgotten is that results are often secondary to the experiences you gain on the way to your goal. It is then about work ethic, motivation, respect and eagerness to learn. By the way, not every driver is at the start with the same goals and expectations, but one thing they all have in common is that they love karting.
In this blog post, we would like to highlight some Belgian talents, each with their own story and goals.

Gilles Stadsbader

The WSK Champions Cup in Adria went well for Gilles. In qualifying the speed was good for a top 3, but due to delays in his fast lap he only finished 33rd. The heats went well. He was able to compete at the front, finished third in his pre-final and could prepare for a duel in the final. He eventually finished in a nice 9th place. A great start to his karting season!

Douwe Dedecker

Douwe already gained a lot of experience in karting, but during this WSK Champions Cup he drove for the first time in his new class OK junior for the Kart Republic team. This under the watchful eye of Dino Chiesa, coach Rick Dreezen and mechanic Tom Stevens. During the quali on Friday he placed 12th in his group. The results of the heats were P13 ( 5 sec penalty bumper ), P16 ( 5 sec penalty bumper ) and 2 times P11. During the pre-final he started in 16th place, but still managed to get an 11th place. The final started on P21, where he took a good start. Unfortunately, on the 2nd lap he collided with Alex Powel, which sent them both into the gravel trap... That meant the end of the final for Douwe. Bad luck is also part of the game... And being able to handle this well is very important Douwe knows.
The golden advice is: Only take the positive from bad luck stories and take it to the next race.

Lenn Nijs

Lenn entered this championship mainly with the objective of gaining a valuable and instructive experience. Qualifying, with 4 minutes left on the clock, was a very nervous affair. There was a hard fight for the ideal position. In the end, he finished 14th in his group, resulting in P42 overall. In his first heat, Lenn started at P17 and was able to come back to P11, but due to the click bumper rule he ended up back in 18th place. Saturday conditions were quite difficult due to the rain. In heats 2, 3 and 4, the click bumper rule caused him problems especially.... He could not qualify for the A final despite his efforts, but did drive his fastest race lap in the last final.
